Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the Mindfulness-Based Integrated Yoga Program on improving the psychological and physical health of adolescents, who are experiencing increasing stress in the rapidly changing modern society. To verify the program’s effectiveness, experimental, comparison, and control groups were recruited, and differences among the groups were compared and analyzed. To measure the effects on physical health, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were used. For psychological health, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Satisfaction of Interpersonal Relationships scale (SIR) were utilized. Additionally, to examine the diverse benefits of mindfulness itself, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) was applied. The experimental group participated in the Mindfulness-Based Integrated Yoga Program for 9 weeks(once per week, 60 minutes per session), while the comparison group engaged in an asana-focused yoga program for the same duration. The control group received no intervention. Data from a total of 45 participants (15 in the experimental group, 15 in the comparison group, and 15 in the control group) were analyzed, excluding any dropouts. The results of the study showed that the Mindfulness-Based Integrated Yoga Program significantly improved adolescents’ sleep quality and increased their physical activity compared to the asana-focused yoga program and the control group. Additionally, it helped adolescents positively perceive stress, enhanced their satisfaction with interpersonal relationships, and demonstrated significant improvements in mindfulness levels. Based on these findings, the Mindfulness-Based Integrated Yoga Program, which incorporates mindfulness, meditation, yoga nidra, vinyasa yoga, and experience sharing, was confirmed to be an effective intervention not only for reducing the stress that adolescents experience but also for effectively improving their psychological and physical health. Furthermore, it provides meaningful implications for the design of programs aimed at promoting holistic health and well-being.
