본 논문의 목적은 하나님과 우리의 이중적인 지식(Cognitio Dei et nostri)을 중심으로 칼빈의 신학적 구조를 규명하는 것이다. 하나님과우리의 이중적인 지식이 우리가 가진 지혜 혹은 기독교 교리의 총화라는 생각은 종교개혁 시대에 비로소 칼빈에 의해 창안되지 않았고, 교부들과 중세 인물들에 의해 이미 신학에 사상적 착상이 이루어진 개념이 칼빈에 의해 본격적인 체계화가 이루어진 개념이다. 신학의 구조에각별한 관심을 가졌던 칼빈은 자신의 교의학 최종판의 구조적 배열에서 비로소 만족한다. 기독교의 진리를 요약한 최종판은 “하나님에 대한 지식”과 “우리에 대한 지식”으로 구성되어 있으며, “창조자 하나님에 대한 지식”과 “구속주 하나님에 대한 지식”으로 크게 구별하되 낯설게 느껴지지 않도록 모든 사람에게 가장 익숙하게 수용된 기독교 진리의 체계로서 성부 하나님과 성자 하나님과 성령 하나님과 교회로 구성된 사도신경 구조에 담아서 논하였다. 하나님의 이중적인 지식, 삼위일체 하나님, 사도신경 구조, 하나님과 우리의 이중적인 지식은 칼빈의 신학적 구조를 설명함에 있어서 각각이 칼빈의 신학적 구조을 이해하는 유용한 접근법을 제공한다. 그러나 칼빈은 이러한 구조적인 틀들을 활용하되 배타적인 택일이 아니라 조화로운 수용과 통합을 도모했다. 즉성경에 계시된 순서를 따라 창조주 하나님에 대한 지식을 먼저 논하고 이후에 구속주 하나님에 대한 지식을 논하고 있다는 측면에서 성경적인 성격을 가졌으며, 모든 지혜의 총화인 하나님과 우리에대한 이중적인 지식을 논하되 하나님을 먼저 논하고 인간을 그 이후에논했다는 사실과 권의 제목들을 하나님에 대한 지식으로 정했다는 점에서 신론적인 성격을 가졌으며, 하나님의 이중적인 지식을 논하되 그것을 모든 사람에게 가장 익숙하고 가장 오랫동안 교회에서 성경 전체의 최고 요약으로 수용되어 온 사도신경 도식에 담았다는 점에서 전통적인 성격을 가졌다는 것이 본 논문의 결론이다.
Abstract
This article intends to examine the structure of theology in Calvin by delving into the twofold knowledge of God and us. The idea that this twofold knowledge is the summa of our whole wisdom or of Christian religion was not finally invented by the Reformers like Calvin but had already been inplanted in the thought o the church fathers and medieval thinkers. It, however, is obviously true that it is Calvin who systematized this knowledge into the structure of theology or of Christian religion. With great interest in the theological structure of Christian truth, Calvin finally became content with the doctrinal arrangement in the final edition of his Institutio religionis christianae, a book that uses the concept of cognitio Dei et nostri and duplex cognitio Dei, God the Trinity, and the structure of the Apostles’ Creed to arrange Christian truth in the best organized form. As a result, the structure of theology in Calvin may be characterized as biblical in that the discussion of God the Creator is prior to that of God the Redeemer in the order of biblical revelation; theocentric in that the discussion of knowing God precedes that of knowing us in the frame of cognitio Dei et nostri; traditional in that the external structure of Calvin’s Institutio is formed largely in accordance to the frame of the Apostles’ Creed, which has been acknowledged as the summary of Christian truth by all the Christians in all the ages.
