역사와 문화적 기억의 문제는 분단된 한반도의 현실에서 뿐만 아니라, 세계의 역사적인 정황 가운데서 화두로 등장하고 있다. 이것을 통하여 국민과 민족적인 차원에서 새로운 문화가 건설되고 무엇보다도 개인과 집단의 삶을 위한 정체성을 확립하게 하고 있다. 본 연구는 여기에 부응하여 기억과 문화적 기억이론을 발전시킨 독일 하이델베르크의고고학자 아스만(J. Assmann)을 통해서 기억을 탐구한다. 아스만은 기억의 개인적이고 집단적인 차원을 사회와 역사적인 차원에서 그 중요성을 고찰하고 밝힌 공헌이 크다. 따라서 본 연구도 먼저 그의 연구방법에 따라서 이 기억의 개인적, 집단적 그리고 사회적 의미와 영향을밝히는데 있다. 그리하여 이러한 연구의 토대를 가지고 신학적인 차원에서 기억을 고찰하는 것이다. 이러한 구체적인 신학적인 차원을 위해서 독일의 가톨릭 기초신학자인 메츠(J. B. Metz)의“고난의 기억”이론을 중심으로 기억이론이 전개될 것이다. 메츠에게서 특히 아우슈비츠는이러한 맥락에서 인간의 고난에 관심하는 문화적인 기억의 핵심으로서역사와 사회적인 차원에서 신앙을 통해 기억의 범주를 통하여 개인과집단에서 자리매김 된다. 이러한 의미에서 정치신학은 이러한 고난의역사가 곧 기독교의 정체성을 위협하고 도전한다는 시대의 진단에 부합하면서 기억은 곧 바로 기독교/신학/교회에 자신의 정체성을 바로 세우고 곧 고난을 치유하는 역사와 사회적인 지평에서 전개되는 것이다. 결정적으로 기억은 단순한 과거와 트라우마의 상념을 넘어서 세계의고통을 치유하는 범주로서 역할을 하고 있다. 특히 분단의 고통의 한가운데 살고 있는 한국의 교회와 기독교는 이러한 치유하는 기억을 통하여 역사와 사회 속에서 새롭게 자리매김 되기를 전망하는 데 또한본 논문의 목적이 있다.
Abstract
The aim of this article is to study Jan Assmann’s concepts on memory and it’s history of influencing politics and theology. According to J. Assmann, memory can be defined not only as individual and collective, but also as a social and historical construct. J. Assmann intends to compare all these memory-terms in the cultural category in order to recover a special meaning of memory. The cultural memory can influence the individual and the collective, as well as the social and historical dimensions. Comparing with the memory theory of J. Assmann, Johann Baptist Metz tries to make remarks about memory in the light of human history. For him, history is not merely a history, but a history of human suffering. The history of human suffering let Christian theology and church become aware of such sufferings themselves. The human suffering also is something that should be remembered culturally in society and history. Auschwitz or Vietnam as a human individual and collective memory become a signal and event for such human suffering and at the same time a cultural memory which must remember in repetition. It will have a very important role especially as corrective function for the Christian church and theology, because they can take the memory to the world for healing the social and historical crisis and renewing their identity. In conclusion, it is clear to present the memory of suffering as cultural memory in order for it to be a healing category for overcoming social and historical victims, and in this way the Christian church plays the role as a messenger of redemption of such memory.
