미로슬라브 볼프(Miroslav Volf)의 기억 담론에 의거한 한국 전쟁 기억의 화해적 재구성 연구

이 논문은 한국 전쟁 기간에 북한 공산주의자들에게 정신적으로나 육체적으로 피해를 입은 체험적 반공주의자들과 그들의 세계관에 영향을 받은 이후 전후 세대들이 어떻게 한국 전쟁의 기억을 재구성하여 남북 화해에 이바지할 수 있을 것인지를 연구한다. 이 논문의 목적은 한국 전쟁의 주도자인 북한 공산주의자들에게 피해를 입고 악몽 같은 기억을 가진 남한 기독교인들을 남북 화해 운동에 투신시킬 수 있는 방법을 찾는 것이다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 먼저 출애굽 역사와 그리스도의 수난 이야기에서 화해적이고 치유적인 기억의 사례를 발견하는 미로슬라브 볼프의 기억 담론을 살핀다. 본 논문은 볼프의 기억 담론이 화해 지향적이고 치유적인 과거의 기억 재구성의 성경적 사례인 역대기서에 의해 지지받을 수 있음도 주목한다. 다음으로 체험적 반공주의자들의 악몽 기억들이 어떻게 화해 지향적이고 치유적인 기억들로 변화될 수 있는지를 논한다. 이 논문의 중심 논지는 악행의 피해자인 볼프의 화해 치유적 기억에 대한 담론이 남한의 체험적 반공주의자들의 한국 전쟁 기억을 재구성하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다는 것이다. 이 논문은 체험적 반공주의자들이 한국 전쟁을 화해 지향적이고 치유적인 기억으로 재구성하도록 돕기 위해 볼프가 제시한 올바른 기억 담론을 제시한다: 진실하게 기억하기, 치유를 위해 기억하기 그리고 미래 지향적이고 화해 지향적으로 기억하기. 마지막으로 이 논문은 볼프가 제시한 화해 지향적이고 치유적인 기억 재구성으로 원수에 대한 적개심을 해소하고 극복한 기독교인 3인의 간증을 예시한다.
Abstract
This paper examines how the experiences of anti-communists who suffered mental and physical damage at the hands of North Korean communists during the Korean War and the the post-war experiences of South Korean impacted by anti-communism could reconfigure the memory of the Korean War and contribute to making an inter-Korean reconciliation. The purpose of this paper is to find out how to engage South Korean Christians who have long had harbored nightmarish memories of the North Korean communists who started the Korean War in June 1950, might contribute to an inter-Korean reconciliation movement. To this end, the present essay first examines the discourse of memory presented by Miroslav Volf, who has found biblical examples of reconciling and healing memories in both the story of the Exodus history and the passion narratives of Christ in the Gospels. This essay adds that Volf’s idea of reconciling and healing memories could be upheld by the biblical example of reconciliatory and therapeutic reconstruction of the past history in the Book of the Chronicles whose aim was to bring the northern tribes of Israel into reconciliation with its southern brothers and sisters. Then the present essay discusses in what process the traumatic memories of anti-communist Christians could be transformed into reconciliatory and healing ones that could help inter-Korean efforts to establish peace and fraternal love between the two Korean peoples. The central argument in this paper is that the discourse on reconciliatory and healing memories proposed by Volf, himself the victim of evil, can help many experiential anti-communists of South Korea reconstruct their memories of the Korean War in the direction of reconciliation and healing. This paper proposes three substantial steps in line with Volf’s discourse on remembering rightly: remembering truthfully, remembering therapeutically, and future-oriented remembering in reconciling ways. Finally, this paper presents the personal testimonies of three Christians who have overcome hostility to their enemies by following the three steps of reconciliatory remembering presented by Volf.
