현대에 일고 있는 동방교회와 서방교회의 교류는‘신학’이라는 아레나에 보다 풍부한 자원과 열기를 가져왔다. 특별히 어거스틴의 신학 바탕위에 기독론적 성향을 덧씌워진 세워진 서방신학과 갑바도기아 교부의 신학적 바탕위에 성령론적 색채로 채워진 동방신학과의 교제는 신학의 다양성을 불러왔다. 특별히 본 논문은 성령론 중심의 전통을 세우는데 영향을 미쳤던 갑바도기아 교부들, 그 중에서도 특히 가이사랴의감독 바질(Basil of Caesarea)의 성령론을 살펴볼 것이다. 325년 니케아 신조가 확정된 이후 성령의 신성을 부인하는 후기-아리우스 이단들에 대항하여 바질은 교회에서 행해지고 있는 송영(doxology)과 예수가 가르친 세례의 형식을 들어 반박한다. 즉, 성령은경륜적으로(economically) 성부와 성자와(with) 함께 영광 받으며 존재론적으로(ontologically) 우시아(ousia) 안에서(in) 두 위격들과(with) 함께 삼위일체를 이루는 동등한 위격(hypostasis)임을 주장한다. 여기서그는 성령을 만물의 근원인 성부와 하나님의 말씀인 성자와 영원히 함께 존재할 뿐만 아니라 신적인 본성의 연합, 즉 교제 안에서의 연합(unity in communion) 속에 계신 하나님의 호흡(Breath)으로 묘사한다. 이 교제는 서로와 관계를 맺지만 결코 상대의 차이를 흡수하거나 혼합하는 것이 아니라 차이를 독특성으로 인정하는 매우 역동적인 사랑이다. 나아가 성령은 이러한 신적 교제를 피조물들에게 전달해줌으로써그들과 또한 교제를 이룬다. 이러한 교제를 바탕으로 하는 바질의 성령론적 이해는 동방과 서방이라는 교회의 오랜 분열뿐만 아니라 갈수록 첨예하게 나타나는 현대의 개인주의와 배타주의를 지양시킬 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위해 필자는바질이 특별히‘교제’를 염두에 두고 고안한 송영을 중심으로 하나님에대한 인식, 위격성(personhood), 교제의 본성을 가진 성령과 그의 활동을 살펴보도록 하겠다.
Abstract
The fellowship between the East and the West has brought out much more resources and intense in the arena of theology. Especially that christological penchant based on the Augustinian theology encounters the pneumatological overtone grounded on the Cappadoican theology contributes to deepen a way of doing theology. In this light, this paper will focus on Pneumatology of Basil the Great who devoted to found the common tradition of the Trinity in church history. After the Nicene Creed (325) was affirmed, there was a rise of post-Arianism that denied the divinity of the Holy Spirit. Basil attempts to refute its theories by claiming doxology used in the church and baptismal formula that Jesus taught. In other words, he argues that the Spirit, as one divine Hypostasis, is economically praised and honored with the Father and the Son and ontologically completes the Trinity with the other two Hypostases in ousia. For the Bishop, not only does the Spirit exist with the Father, the source of all and with the Son, the Word of God but also is the Breath of God who dwells in the koinonia of divine nature, that is, the unity in communion. This communion relates one another but never absorbs nor fuses their individual differences. Rather it reflects itself as a dynamic love that appreciates as well as accepts them as their unique characteristics. In addition, the Spirit composes a communion with the created world by communicating this divine communion to it. Understanding on Basil’s Pneumatology based on this communion will contribute, I believe, to sublate not only the schism between the East and the West but also individualism and exclusivism which are manifested as the typical characteristics of modern society. For doing this, I will examine pneumatological doxology, understanding of God, personhood, and the Spirit’s nature and works in Basil’s theology.
