Abstract
Platform, actively used term in these days, is located in contemporary art world to explain open source, or participatory collaboration of art making. But that precise meaning is still obscure due to different usages. This paper is to discuss platform in connection with art production, for instance, using digital programs, making symposium or workshop, and inviting people to make art works together. The concept of the word, being commensurate with the popular spread of personal computers in the 1990s, has been introduced by a curator, Nicolas Bourriaud, then adopted by Okwui Enwezor and David Joselit. Yet, works of art used in concepts of platform were mainly examined with their form and function. In this paper, I suggest three ways of working platform; one, as an environment of information and relationship; two, as an open source technical software and its program; three, for the online and offline collaborative activities. Considering diverse practices, I could conclude that platform conduct the real author-function working as a discourse, prefiguring the open participatory environment of up-coming art scene. Platform aesthetics will be formed accordingly as well.
