Abstract

There are two motivic set classes, (0134) and (0358) in Agon by Stravinsky. These set classes are basic and important elements through the piece and in addition to this, they are suggested as two contrast style of music. Firstly, the set classes, (0134) and (0358) have two trichordal set-classes, (013), (014) and (025), (037). Neo-Riemannian theory can be applied and examined the new and modified principles, three definitions shown in this paper, with on parsimonious voice leading and maximal common-tone preservation. There are H-chord and K-chord, those two chords are connected by J-sequence each other. H-chord and K-chord could be determined P, L, R based on Neo-Riemannian theory. New definitions and the application into Agon should make a counterproposal for the new analytical tools both tonal music and atonal music. In conclusion, this approach can have some logical possibilities as advanced techniques in terms of the contemporary composition.
