Abstract
The voice leading researches for the analysis of atonal music have been studied by focusing on measuring the degree of similarity through ‘connection of common tones’ and ‘maximally smooth voice leading progression’. However, in 2014, the Total Voice Leading theory proposed by Straus focuses on the ‘connection’ and ‘possibility’ of relationship between sonorities on the real music surface. In this paper, I first introduce Straus’s Total Voice Leading System, which provided a new perspective on the study of voice-leading progression in atonal music and I try to analyze the Webern’s song, ≪Three Songs≫, op. 25, no. 3. Through this analytical study, I could prove the structural total voice leading systems latent in Webern’s music by considering the possibility of acoustic voice leading.
