Abstract
One of the most significant changes in musicology since the 1980s is its growing diversity of content and perspectives, and that fundamental questions have been raised about western music history. Notably, decolonizing perspectives in musicology criticizes the history focusing on a western canon of music. This study examines changes in western music history that decolonizing perspectives have brought and provides theoretical frameworks that can be applied to music history class. Looking at European history as it intersects with other societies will shed a light on music history with revised perspectives and critical insights, especially in terms of representation. Furthermore, this will contribute to challenging content and perspectives in music history which have traditionally focused on a few masters and their masterworks, without reflecting changes in musicology.
