Abstract
This study examines the significance of female friendship and solidarity as reflected in the life and activities of Agnes Block, an art collector and horticulturist. Block contributed significantly to the development of contemporary Dutch horticulture by collecting and cultivating exotic and rare plant species in her large garden, Vijverhof. In the process of growing plants and documenting them through images, she interacted with individuals from various professions, including scholars, horticulturists, and painters. Block's friendships included several female artists, among whom her relationships with Alida Withoos and Maria Sibylla Merian were particularly special. This study aims to explore Vijverhof as a place of exchange, communication, and solidarity with Block and her contemporary females. Here, Block created flower books, financially supported female artists, and shared cultural and artistic visions with them.
