예배 전쟁을 넘어 존 웨슬리의 예전적 예배를 향하여

Abstract

In the late twentieth century, the term, worship wars hasemerged in the North American Christian churches. The worshipwar means that the conflict between two different waorshiptranditions, which are Hypolitus tradition and Willow Creektradition. Hypolitus tradition represents the historical liturgicaltradition originated from the third century Christian liturgy, whileWillow Creek tradition is a contemporary style worship thathas emerged in the late twentieth century for the seekers andthe younger generation. This conflict between these two worshiptraditions has become a serious issue in not only the NorthAmerican Christian churches but also the Korean Christianchurches. I probed the two Christian worship traditions, liturgy andworship comparing the differences of two traditions, advantagesand disadvantages of each tradition. Then, I explained somereasons why the Korean Protestant Churches should includethe liturgical tradition more. To esplain the reasons, I presentsthe relationship between the liturgy (worship) and theologyin light of three mainline Christian traditions such as the Orthdox tradition, Roman Catholic tradition, and Protestant tradtion. Then, I give an example worship tradition that tries to keepbalance between liturgical tradition and worship tradition, theliturgical worship of John Wesley. Through this research, I havearrived a strong conviction that the liturgical worship that JohnWesley tried to conbine the elements of liturgy and worshipis the solution of the worship wars emerged in the contemporaryChristian churches. For this research,I probed the two Christian worship traditions, liturgy and worship comparing the differences of two traditions, advantages and disadvantages of each tradition. Then, I explained why the Korean Protestant Church include the liturgical tradition more. As the reasons for this question, I presents the relationship between the liturgy (worship) and theology in light of three mainline Christian traditions such as the Orthdox tradition, Roman Catholic tradition, and Protestant tradtion. Then, I give an example worship tradition that tries to keep balance between liturgical tradition and worship tradition, the liturgical worship of John Wesley.
