본 연구는 초등학생들의 학교 도서관을 이용한 과학도서 대출 현황과 과학 학업성취도와의 연관성을 분석하였다. 서울시 M초등학교의 디지털도서관시스템(DLS)을 이용해 4~6학년의 과학도서 대출 목록을 일반 과학도서와 과학 학습만화로 분류하여 대출량과 학업성취도 사이의 상관계수를 학업성취도 평가 점수를 사용하여 분석하였다. 고학년 학생들의 과학도서 대출량은 국어 관련 도서 다음으로 많았다. 과학 학습만화 대출량은 학년 구분 없이 과학도서의 약 70%였으며, 남학생들이 과학 학습만화를 더 선호하였다. 전체 과학도서 대출량과 학업성취도와의 상관관계는 낮았지만, 과학도서 대출 정도를 대출량의 사분위수를 기준으로 '최상', '최하'로 구분할 때 대출량과 과학 학업성취도는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 나타내었다. 특히 일반 과학도서는 과학 학습만화보다 더 큰 차이를 나타내었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between the amount of borrowing science books and science academic achievement in elementary school. The list and amount of borrowed science books of 427 students were collected from the Digital Library System(DLS) of Seoul M elementary school. To investigate the relation between them, the analysis of correlation coefficient and t-test were conducted. The results of this study were as follows. First, science books were the second high level of borrowed books. There was a tendency that the ranking of the amount of borrowing books was similar to the amount of owned books in the library. Second, the amount of borrowing science educational cartoons was more than two times than that of common science books in every grade. The amount of boys borrowing science educational cartoons was more than the girls, and it was a significant difference(p<.05). Third, the correlation coefficient between them was low, but there was a significant difference of science academic achievement between the lowest-ranking and highest-ranking groups designated by the first and third quartile of the amount of borrowed common science books in every grade. It is therefore important to have new and interesting science books that also have a strong educational value in elementary school libraries. Teachers must then be made aware of all such available resources to complement their lessons. Lastly, the development of a comprehensive science book list is crucial for students to easily choose a suitable science book among various books.
