Abstract
According to his speeches and thoughts, V. Havel's main thought on the European Union is to take Europe as a whole. He has consistently insisted when Europe becomes one Europe, the tragedies left behind by wars which broke out on the European continent will not be repeated. As tragedies on the separated Europe in the past became the world tragedies, so the separated Europe made the world divide into two worlds. And the way to prevent world from dividing is to integrate Europe as a whole. His fundamental thought on the European Union is not his-own- country-centrism but the new role with which Europe and European Union could contribute to the whole world. He has insisted that Europe and EU have to explore the ways toward reassessment of European values and contributions to the world. That's the ‘coexistence pattern’ which passes on the new generation in 21th century. Therefore Havel insists if Europe is to be restructured as a whole one, i.e. European Union, division of Europe will not to be repeated and the past tragedies will not break out on the European continent and the world.
