Abstract

How children becomes a scientist. The question is believed to be a clue in the process of examining the contribution of science to a new national education program, one of the state/national reconstruction projects, by exploring the ideological implications of the child science narrative produced right after liberation. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the characteristics and historical meaning of scientific culture educated to children through the children's magazine ‘Sohaksaeng’ during the Liberation Period. In other words, the purpose of the study is to explore the meaning of the children's statue during the liberation period, which was to be composed of scientific culture. Thus, this paper focused on the role of a scientist biography, formed the concept of science and scientists in a way that could show how patriotic scientism for the state and nation had constructed the mind of modern children ideologically. In addition, the analysis of the historical novel Admiral Yi Sun Sin, written by Park Tae-won, explored the national hero Yi Sun-shin being mythical as an inventor. This was the discovery of the scientific culture of modern children in the cooperative relationship between scientism and nationalism. The Sohaksaeng makes children a nation dedicated to the state by calling it possible for anyone to become the protagonist of invention, while constantly infected a these of overcoming backwardness into the boy’s masses as a deepening of scientism. The scientific children’s statue award for the establishment of a new state was imposed on science to achieve the nation's wealth and prosperity in the future. As such, the perception that the wealth of science and technology could lead to the wealth of the nation was closely linked to the formation of the identity of the child during the liberation period. Thus, while reading this paper, subjects such as scientism, progressive/development ideology, nationalism and backwardness will be able to watch the landscape that forms the inner side of children.
