초록

Shariah distinguishes between edible and inedible animals. However, in order for Muslims to eat the meat of edible animals, they must slaughter it according to the Islamic slaughter practice (Dhabiḥah). Meanwhile, some people express their disapproval of such Islamic slaughter practice, saying it is cruel, inhumane, and animal abuse. In this point, we are faced with the following questions. Since the advent of Islam, have Muslims slaughtered animals in an inhumane and brutal ways for their nutrition, and has this practice continued into modern society? Is Islam leading Muslims to animal abuse by Shariah? If so, does Islam not love animals and does not have any concepts corresponding to animal rights or animal welfare, one of the new social issues in modern society? This study aims to answer the above questions by examining the Islamic perspective on animals contained in Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet.
