초록
The aim of this paper is to illustrate how to improve the details of a computer-based test (henceforth CBT) for adult English language learners on the basis of a needs analysis and test-takers’ feedback. The project of developing a CBT had been carried out by a foreign language examination center at H University in Korea. A total of 152 university students took part in a survey for a needs analysis of their CBT preferences. A quantitative analysis of survey data was conducted for 38 adults who took the first version of the test. Both groups agreed on the validity of a CBT for the integrated-skill format. They responded that approximately 150 minutes is an appropriate length for a CBT for adults. These findings support the idea that it is necessary to analyze target users’ needs and feedback for the design, administration and improvement of a new form of English proficiency test. This paper will be particularly useful for those who intend to develop a CBT for adults.
