The research aimed at exploring major determining factors affecting the English divide in Korea, using a logistic regression analysis of factors reported in previous studies. The results confirmed the significance of the following four major factors: family income; private tutoring; students' attitude and motivation; the teachers' efforts in motivating students. The researcher concluded that it is encouraging to find that factors such as students' attitude and motivation and teachers' efforts in motivating students in learning English, are more influential than others. It means that the public English education system should introduce proactive measures to tackle the English polarization issue by offering professional teacher training programs focusing on how to enhance the learners' attitude and motivation in learning English, not just blaming private tutoring, as if it is the main culprit in exacerbating the English divide confronting Korea.
