This paper examines Taqlīd, focusing on its understanding and appearance. During Muhammad’s life, he was the only authority who could judge all issues that controlled the Islamic community(Ummah). Taqlīd, which existed from the very the early period of Islam, has been discussed by many Islamic scholars. It literally means “to imitate or follow,” but in Islamic law, it means following the established decisions or judgements of an Islamic jurist, without seeking evidence or proof, because this was the most effective and fundamental method. We have concluded that the main reason for the appearance of Taqlīd was to find the best resolution for complicated issues through the use of the resources of Islamic law (Quran, Hadith, Qiyas, Ijma). Over many years, many judgements of Ijtihād, or independent interpretations of Islamic law, have accumulated and have become models of Taqlīd in finding resolutions. It has been found that as a result, Taqlīd has played an important role in preserving Muslims’ identity since the advent of Islam under Ummah.
Abstract

Also it was found from the result that Taqlīd has played an important role in preserving Musilm’s identity since the advent of Islam under Ummah.
