In this article, we investigated the location of geographical names of Dengzhou(登州) shown in Yanxinglu(燕行錄) on site and obtained unknown data from local historians. Moreover, we interviewed residents in the area and recorded their anecdotes which were passed down, and took pictures to have data to compare the past and present humanistic views. Based on the analysis and field surveys, the present geographic names of the places passed by the Joseon envoys from Huangxian County(黃縣界) to Zhaoyuanxian(招遠縣) are reconstructed as follows: Zuoyangpu(柞羊鋪), Huangshuihe(黃水河), Nanwangpu(南王鋪), Huangxian-xiancheng(黃縣縣城), Huangxian-xiancheng-xiguan(黃縣縣城西關), Jiulidianpu(九里店鋪), Nanluanhe(南欒河), Nanluanpu(南欒鋪), Beimapu(北馬鎮), Guanzhuangpu(官庄鋪), Jieshoupu(界首鋪), Huangshan’guanyi(黃山館驛), Wangxuzhai(王徐寨), Zhaoyuanxian(招遠縣) of Dengzhou(登州) in Shandong(山東) China.
Abstract
In this article, we investigated the location of geographical names of Dengzhou(登州) shown in Yanxinglu(燕行錄) on site and obtained unknown data from local historians.
