초록
This study aimed to develop and evaluate the usability of a customized GPT for interpreter trainees, focusing on its integration into interpreter education as an AI-based tool. The first version of the customized GPT was developed to enhance active listening skills by focusing on text summarization and consecutive interpretation practice. It was built using GPT’s builder function, incorporating the idiomatic gist method into prompts. The key features of the customized GPT included summary practice, feedback based on the cognitive apprenticeship model, text-based questions, and AI voice support. Then, first-year students attending a basic consecutive interpreting class at the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation were asked to use the GPT and provide their reviews and feedback. Based on learners’ feedback, the customized GPT was improved, focusing on feature integration and language differences, and simplifying the interface to enhance user experience. The evaluation through the USE (Usefulness, Satisfaction, and Ease of Use) survey showed that the customized GPT was beneficial for summarization and consecutive interpretation practice, particularly excelling in time-saving aspects. This study demonstrates the potential of customized GPTs as effective tools for interpreter training, offering opportunities to overcome temporal and physical limitations in learning. Future developments could involve expanding the customized GPT to cover more diverse languages and topics.
