Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of laminar shear stress on microparticle production and its possible mechanisms in human-derived endothelial cells. The laminar shear stress was directly associated with decreased production of microparticle and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species. The protein expressions of a key mitochondrial biogenesis marker, PGC-1α was significantly increased after the treatment of laminar shear stress. The positive effects of laminar shear stress was abolished by the treatment of sirtinol, indicating that the positive effects of shear stress is SIRT1-dependent in endothelial cells. The results of this study are cellular/molecular verification that regular exercise can improve vascular health.
