Abstract

This study explores the influence of gut microbiome and cerebrovascular function on the pathological progression of Alzheimer’s disease and summarizes the effectiveness and potential of non-pharmacological interventions to improve these factors. Alzheimer’s disease is known to be caused by neurodegenerative damage due to the accumulation of amyloid-beta plaques and the hyperphosphorylation of tau protein in the brain, changes closely linked to cardiovascular dysfunction and gut dysbiosis. In particular, metabolites derived from gut microbiota exhibit cardiovascular protective effects by modulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Regular exercise and probiotic dietary can positively alter the gut microbiome composition/diversity, reducing inflammation and improving vascular function, thereby potentially contributing to the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. This study suggests that regulating the gut microbiome and enhancing cerebrovascular health may serve as promising non-pharmacological approaches for Alzheimer’s prevention and treatment, emphasizing the need for further research to demonstrate these strategies.
