한국 최초의 체육잡지, 조선체육계의 역사적 의미를 알아보기 위해 조선체육계의 발행, 내용, 특징에 초점을 맞추어 검토한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 조선체육계는 일제의 무단통치기 조선인의 스포츠 활동과 관련된 사료가 절대적으로 부족한 상황에서 당시 기록을 파악할 수 있는 단서를 제공해주었다. 이뿐만 아니라 현재 한 세기가 넘는 역사를 자랑하며 한국스포츠계의 총본산으로 중심적인 역할을 다하고 있는 대한체육회의 전신, 조선체육회의 설립 초기 내용을 파악할 수 있게 되었다. 이상과 같이 조선체육계는 한국 최초의 체육잡지로 위치시킬 수 있으며 일제강점기 한국근대스포츠의 전체상을 파악하는데 일조를했다는 점에서 체육사적인 의미는 매우 크다고 할 수 있겠다.
Abstract
This study examines the historical significance of Joseoncheyukgye (JCK), Korea’s first sports magazine, by focusing on its publication, content, and characteristics. The findings reveal that JCK served as a vital resource for tracing and documenting Korean sports activities during Japan's oppressive military rule, a period marked by a severe lack of records. Additionally, it provides valuable insights into the early foundation and activities of the Joseon Sports Association, the predecessor of today's Korean Sport and Olympic Committee, which now stands as a cornerstone of Korea's sports history, with over a century of legacy. In conclusion, the JCK held a prominent place as the first magazine in South Korea. Its role in illuminating the broader development of modern sports during the Japanese occupation underscores its significant historical value in sports history.
