人文學의 ‘위기’와 文化연구를 위한 試論―분과학문의 배타성을 넘어 공존의 학문으로

Abstract

I want to overview the cultural articulation of east Asian philosophy and art from the cultural viewpoint. Nowadays in Korea, the discussion of cultural contents has been placed on the agenda of high education and practice as a means of solution to 'Humanities in crisis'. Because we cannot trust the trend of Neo-liberalism in our society, it is urgent for us to reflect the cultural industries from the philosophical and academical aspect. Therefore I think the market-oriented cultural industries should make up their body through the responsible cultural policies for the public way of life and the production of alternative knowledge to the old one. Also in the area of cultural studies, we should find a mode to develop a cultural concept which keeps tune with ordinary people beyond the traditional meaning of civilization. Studies and art activities of the 21st century ask for the progressive and intellectual project which overcomes the limitation of university discipline system and makes the social communication smoothly. It is necessary to answer on the trend of the times by means of criticizing the traditional spiritualism of the humanities. This corresponds not only to the original spirit of philosophy and art but also to the spirit of cultural studies which insists on the exclusive status within the educational system. Because the mutual understandings between the cultural studies including philosophical and artistic discourses and the ordinary cultural practices of people must be developed more and more closely, we have to discuss on the cultural policies and philosophical discourses included in cultural studies, not the rejection of the cultural industry. I conclude that this philosophical and artistic debate connected with the social effects of cultural production and consumption could prepare for the theoretical basis in development of humanities and cultural studies in the 21st century.
