남북한 교사의 역할 인식 프레임 비교

본 연구는 1990년대 이후 큰 사회적 변화를 경험한 남북한에서 과거와 현재, 그리고 당위와 현실 측면 교사들의 역할 인식 프레임이 어떻게 다른지를 비교 분석해 보고자 한 것이다. ‘교사라는 지위와 관련하여 기대되는 활동 혹은 그에 대처하는 활동의 집합체’로 교사 역할을 정의하는 가운데 관련한 교사 인식 프레임을 분석하기 위해 남한 교사, 북한 교사가 각각 참여하는 집담회를 진행하고 그 결과를 의미망 분석법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 남한 교사들은 학생들에게 ‘지식’을 제공하는 전통적 의미의 교사 역할을 과거 교사들이 수행했어야 할 당위적 역할로 규정하며 실제 과거 교사들은 그러한 역할을 수행했다고 가정한다. 그러나 현재는 여러 현실적 요소들에 의한 한계에도 불구하고 교사가 지향해야 할 역할은 학생과 인격적 관계를 형성하면서 학생들의 행복 증진에 필요한 전문적 의견을 개진할 수 있는 교육전문가여야 한다고 남한 교사들은 인식한다. 이는 기술혁신으로 일자리가 계속 줄어들어 대학을 졸업해도 안정된 직업이 보장되기 어려운 한국의 사회적 상황을 반영하는 역할 인식인 것으로 보인다. 이에 비해 북한 교사들은 현재 교사 역할에서 당 정책의 전달자, 특히 각 층위에서 요구되는 각종 물품을 거두는 과제 수행자로서의 역할 비중이 커졌다는 점을 지적하는 가운데 지식 교육과 교양을 담당했던 과거 교사 역할 회복을 지향한다. 이는 경제 재건을 위하여 그 어느 때보다도 기초지식이 중요해진 북한의 사회적 상황을 반영한 교사 역할 인식인 것으로 보인다. 이러한 남북한 교사의 역할 인식 프레임의 차이는 남북한 사회가 처한 서로 다른 상황, 서로 다른 사회적 시간 차이를 반영하고 있다고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
We analyzed teachers’ perceptions on what teachers should do and what they are doing between South and North Korea which have been experienced social structural change since 1990’s. The role of teachers was defined as the set of expected behaviors by the social status of teachers or their behaviors coping with social expectations. To find out the subjective perception of teachers’ role, we held two focus group discussions in which teachers from the two Koreas participated and analysed those data through semantic network analysis. Research results showed that South Korea teachers thought that teachers in the past were supposed to be providers with knowledge and believed that their precedents were successful in doing this. Although current teachers were surrounded by many challenges that threatened the identity of the teacher, they aimed at taking a role in forming a intimate relationship with students and promoting students’ happiness. They hoped that they could act as an expert in educational settings. By contrast, North Korean teachers thought that current teachers took a role in delivering the Party’s policies and especially collecting a variety of articles that were required by superior authorities. They believed that teachers in the past had been respected as deliverers of knowledge and liberal arts and that this role should be restored. These differences between South and North Korean teachers’ role frame may reflections of the different social contexts in the different social time.
