《史記》 「貨殖列傳」 주석서와 그 修辭學的 주석― 18세기 조선의 주석서를 중심으로

Abstract

This study analyzed the commentaries on "Huozhiliezhuan" (Biographies of Usurers) of Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian) to identify the characteristics of the annotations. Since the eighteenth century in Joseon, "Huozhiliezhuan" was published separately from Shiji as an individual volume, and many commentaries were published. This study focused on four commentaries, Hwasikjeonchagi, Hwasikjeonjuhae, Shingyohwasikjeon, and Hwasikjeonshinju, to analyze their exegetic characteristics. These commentaries analyzed the sentences in "Huozhiliezhuan" to identify its implications, the author's intention, the theme of each paragraph, and rhetoric. The methods and content of the annotations were less focused on historical research and were more rhetorical. The commentaries were clear in their intent to appreciate and analyze "Huozhiliezhuan" as a work with a distinctive style, on the basis of reading it as a classical work on the ancient history and economic history of China. The commentaries followed the academic trends of East Asia, where rhetorical commentaries had been widely distributed and accepted since the Ming and Qing dynasty. They were also influenced by the literary trends, as revivalist literature gained popularity and Shiji was considered the canon of classical texts. Another contributing factor was that the Joseon academia in the eighteenth century took an interest in "Huozhiliezhuan" out of the belief that the pursuit of profit should be considered in a positive light and that commerce and industry should be promoted. The findings of this study confirmed that the commentaries are works that provide a deeper understanding of Shiji, as well as the literary trends and economic knowledge in East Asia.
