Abstract

This study is designed to explore factors affecting happiness among young Korean adults using binominal logistic regression analysis. We used the Korea Education and Employment Panel(KEEP) from Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training. The results are as follows. The key factors affecting happiness among Korean young adults are self-concept, job satisfaction, health, interpersonal generalized trust, and local community safety. Positive self-concept is suggested as a strong influence on happiness. Also, happiness is significantly related to job satisfaction and health. Interestingly, social capital in the form of interpersonal generalized trust and local community safety has a positive effect on subjectively perceived happiness. Young Korean females particularly have the possibility to be much more affected by community safety than young males. Taken together, the findings of this study suggested that differentiated strategies are needed to ensure young adult’s happiness.
