Abstract

The relationships between public schools and higher education through school-university partnerships is important in terms of the reform of the educational system. Such a collaboration examples can be found in Professional Development School(PDS) enforced in the States, in which pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and professors form the learning community and collaborate to improve instructional strategies, curriculum, learning environment, and ultimately to enhance the student ability. The purpose of this study is to review an PDS system and examine the application possibility for the development of teaching profession. PDS can benefit everyone engaged. The benefits of pre-service music teachers would be improved learning experiences, the opportunity to gain real-world teaching experience, and apply theory to practice The primary benefits to the university and teachers would be opportunities for professional development and collegiality. Challenges to partnerships could be communication, difficulty of scheduling, lack of time and the originality of music subject. But, the benefits of the partnerships would outweigh the challenges. Sufficient communication between participants, consideration of music specialty, rewarding system, educational policy should be considered positively for the successful program.
