As a social and political thought, basic communitarian ideas appeared in the Pre-chin Confucianism. However, it formed a systematic theory until the Sung dynasty that is the Learning of the “Four Books”. Not only can Confucian communitarinism revise Western liberalism, but will become the resources of thought for the development of democratic politics in the East-Asian countries and regions. The prospects of Confucian communitarinism lie on its self-criticism and discourse with Western liberalism so that it transfers itself from communitarinism into liberalism.
Abstract
