Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to revisit the second part of the exposition in Mozart’s Piano Sonata with respect to its basic components, and parameters that determine secondary theme space and closing space. The second part of the exposition consists of S-space and c-space, each of which differs greatly in an actual work based on the dates of composition, musical style, composer’s intention, and etc. Essential Expositional Closure, a significant perfect authentic cadence given in the end of the S-space is a parameter that determines the boundary of between the S-, and C-spaces. One may also consider changes of musical figure, rhythm, and harmonic pattern that accompanied by the EEC. In general, closing theme falls into a period, whose antecedent phrase prolongs Ⅰ through repetitive Ⅴ-Ⅰ progression. However, it is important to know that an appropriate approach to the sonata form comes in the process of accommodating a wide variety of musical compositions rather than principles or types established through music theorists.
