Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the definition and structure of "authoring tools for digital content in mathematics and science education." To achieve this, a Delphi survey was conducted in three rounds with a group of ten experts, utilizing a preliminary definition and structure developed through a review of previous studies and examples of authoring tools. As a result, the study derived a definition conceptualizing authoring tools as content development and management systems for teaching, learning, and assessment in mathematics and science education. The structure consists of five detailed elements and thirteen main functions in the teaching and learning domain, and three detailed elements and six main functions in the assessment domain. In conclusion, the study discusses the role of students as users, the specificity of mathematics and science subjects, and teacher expertise related to authoring tools based on issues raised in the Delphi survey. This study clarifies the concept of authoring tools in the context of mathematics and science education, enhancing the usability of digital content in classroom settings and providing a basis for improving existing authoring tools and developing new ones.
