‘기억의 장소’로써 드라마 <파친코>에 관한 연구: ‘시간의 축’의 연결을 중심으로

본 논문은 드라마 <파친코>가 재일조선인(자이니치)의 삶의 기억을 어떻게 현재의 맥락에서 활성화시키는지 그리고 그 의미는 무엇인지를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 분석은 플롯, 영상 스타일 특성으로 구분하여진행했다. <파친코>의 플롯은 전체적으로 순행하는 원작소설과 다르게두 개의 과거의 시간의 축(일제강점기/대과거, 1989년/과거)이 교차되는이중 플롯 구조를 기본으로, 현재의 시간의 축과의 연결을 통해 자이니치의 삶의 기억을 재현해내고 있다. 시간의 축들의 연결을 위해 평행 편집을 기본으로 와이프(wipe), 슈퍼임포즈(superimpose) 등의 비주얼 효과 편집 기법과 오감, 노래, 소품 등의 요소들이 활용되었다. <파친코> 는 이러한 내레이션 전략을 통해 자이니치에 관한 기억을 역사의 무덤으로 가져가려는 시도를 막아내며, 자이니치의 과거와 현재 그리고 다가올미래를 연결하는 기억의 장소 역할을 하고 있다.
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze how the drama series, Pachinko , activates the memory of the life of Zainichi Koreans (Zainichi) in the present context and what it means. The analysis was carried out by dividing plot and visual style characteristics. The plot of Pachinko is based on a double-plot structure in which two axes of the time of the past (the Japanese colonial period and the year of 1989) intersect, unlike the original novel that proceeds as a whole. The two axes of the time of the past recreate the memories of Zainichi’s life by connecting themselves to the axis of the time of the present. In connecting the axes of the time, the technique of parallel editing was employed. In addition, visual effect editing techniques such as wipe and superimpose as well as elements such as the five senses, songs, and props were used. Through this narrational strategy, Pachinko prevents attempts to take the memories of Zainichi to the tomb of history, and serves as a ‘site of memory’ that connects Zainichi’s past, present and future.
