Abstract

After surviving the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of local community-level responses to global societal disasters, such as infectious diseases, has come to the forefront. To develop an effective community-level public health intervention and campaign message, this study examined the influence of community trust, a form of social capital, on COVID-19 vaccine-related information seeking and preventive behaviors through the Risk Information Seeking and Processing (RISP) model. Based on a nationwide survey of 1,000 adults in South Korea, the results revealed that community trust enhances COVID-19 risk perception, increases individuals’ subjective COVID-19 vaccine information norms, and encourages more active COVID-19 vaccine information seeking, ultimately positively affecting vaccine acceptance intentions. The findings indicate that community trust has a positive impact on COVID-19 prevention behaviors, providing insights that could aid in designing community-level campaigns for future pandemic prevention efforts.
