초록

This study investigates whether advanced Korean-speaking learners can successfully acquire the relevant properties of English plural marking. Based on the cross-linguistic differences between Korean and English, we characterize three kinds of L2 learning tasks that native Korean speakers would face: count-mass distinction obligatoriness, and delinking specificity. In order to examine if these properties for the correct use of English plurals can be acquired, three types of tasks-an elicitation task, grammar task, and preference task-are given to 38 adult L1-Korean L2-English learners at advanced levels and 19 native English speakers. The overall findings from the three tasks indicate that the complete acquisition of English plurals is delayed to the advanced level. Even advanced learners had difficulty with various aspects of English plural marking, but we would say that it is not unattainable since we found some learners who performed in a target-like way.
