The study aims to explore the Korean plural marking under the numeral constraint by Chinese learners of Korean. The Korean plural morpheme, ‘-tul,’ is often omitted when associated with a non-human noun in a numeral classifier phrase, while it can co-occur with a human noun. The study conducted a sentence acceptability judgment task, in which participants assessed the acceptability of plural-marked [+human] or [-human] nouns in pre-numeral and post-nominal classifier constructions. The results revealed that Korean learners exhibited a low rate of acceptability for plural-marked human nouns in the pre-nominal classifier construction, instead preferring non-plural-marked ones in post-nominal classifier. In contrast, for the post-nominal construction, learners showed an awareness of the numeral constraint with increasing proficiency. However, the overall preference for post-nominal structures seemed to be influenced by input frequency in the L2 comprehension of numeral classifier constructions. These findings are discussed within the context of the Feature Reassembly Hypothesis.
