Abstract

In this paper, chafing dish-shaped earthenware buried in wooden chamber tomb, duck-shaped earthenware, egg-shaped jar with two lugs, egg-shaped jar with short neck and mounted jar with short neck in Yeongnam area are expressed as Saroguk earthenware to pay attention to their establishment and spread. As a result, chafing dish-shaped earthenware, duck-shaped earthenware, egg-shaped jar with two lugs, egg-shaped jar with short neck and mounted jar with short neck are concentrated in Gyeongju and Ulsan areas, and are prevalent around Gyeongju area according to the recent data. When chronology of earthenware is applied to the existing research results, it reveals it appeared in the mid-third century AD and continued to exist until the early fourth century. As for the development and spread of Saroguk earthenware by area, it appeared in the mid-third century AD and continued to exist until the early-fourth century, and its presence is strong as Deokcheon-ri, and Hwanseong-dong Relics of Gyeongju, where there is the largest amount of excavation, are in the center. Although it existed in Ulsan area from the early third century AD to the early fourth century, the amount of excavation was the second largest and therefore, it was prevalent and spread around Gyeongju area. On the other hand, only a limited amount of Saroguk earthenware was found in Pohang, Gyeongsan, and Daegu areas. Saroguk earthenware and Gyeongju wooden chamber tomb are linked together and interpreted as follows. In other words, each town of Saroguk was generally formed with multiple political forces and therefore, the social unity would have definitely needed for internal integrity. For this, Saroguk might have focused on the rituals. Because the rituals would eventually justify social orders or have political momentum and because they mean innovation and change, it is more reasonable and economical for the social unity among multiple political forces to lead social orders to a fair agreement through rituals than dispute. As for archeological phenomena in particular, chafing dish-shaped earthenware, duck-shaped earthenware, egg-shaped jar with two lugs, egg-shaped jar with short neck and Gyeongju wooden chamber tomb that appeared in the mid-third century AD are in the center of innovation and change, giving it circumstantial evidences. Also, the distribution area of chafing dish-shaped earthenware, duck-shaped earthenware, egg-shaped jar with two lugs, egg-shaped jar with short neck and Gyeongju wooden chamber tomb implies how Saroguk has integrated the surrounding small countries.
