초록

Interlocutors naturally exchange turns of speech in everyday conversation. To investigate this, we conducted a study to determine how Korean listeners use syntactic and prosodic cues in turn–taking. A perception experiment was conducted in which Korean listeners listened to speech stimuli and judged the end of turn–taking units. The pattern of judging the end of turns appeared to differ depending on the manipulation of prosodic cues in the analysis of reaction times. The results demonstrated the necessity of prosodic cues. Thus, for a turn to be concluded, grammatical completion alone is insufficient and must be accompanied by prosodic completion.
