학술 텍스트에 나타난 고빈도 헤지 표현 ‘–ㄹ 수 있다’ 연구: 학술 분야별 사용 양상을 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to examine the usage patterns of ‘–ul swu issta’ in academic articles and analyze its discourse function. To achieve this purpose, a corpus of academic articles with a size of around 3.07 million units(eojeol) from five academic disciplines: humanities, social sciences, arts, natural sciences, and engineering. Through the analysis, the following results were found. First, as a result of the keyness analysis, the preferred items in the fields of humanities, social sciences and arts and those in the fields of natural sciences and engineering are different. Second, the hedging expression ‘–ul swu issta’ which was needed to produce effective academic texts, has discourse functions of weakening the strength of the writer’s opinion and value judgment and of conveying the factual proposition politely to the reader.
