본 연구의 목적은 서술어의 과정 유형(Process Type) 중에서 물질적 과정(material process)에 해당하는한국어 동사 목록을 선정하는 데에 있다. 과정 유형은 체계기능언어학의 용어이며 이것은 이미 여러 학문 분야에서 과정 구성을 텍스트 분석과 교육의 도구로 활발하게 이용하는 것으로 확인되어 왔다. 본고의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 먼저 한 일은 우선되어야 할 개념인 물질적 과정 유형에 대해 정의를 내리고, 과정 유형의 불확정성에 대해서 살펴보았다. 다음으로 과정 유형을 판단할 때 조심해야 할 것들에 대해서는 Halliday(1994: 547~552)에서 제시한 다섯 가지를 참조하여 한국어의 경우를 설명하였다. 또한 물질적 과정 동사의 판정 절차를 소개하고 판정 기준에 대해서 설명한 후 본고의 결과물인 물질적 과정 동사 목록을 선정하였다. 목록 선정의 1차 대상은 한국어기초 사전의동사 10,953개와 1억 어절 말뭉치(SJ-RIKS 코퍼스확장판)로 정하였고, 물질적 과정 동사 목록을 선정해 내기 위해서는 다음과 같은 방법을 사용하였다. 첫째, ‘-는 중이다’가 형용사와 결합하는 경우가 있었으므로 모든 형용사를 동사 목록에서 제외하였다. 둘째, 한국어기초 사전과‘SJ-RIKS 코퍼스 확장판’의 동사 목록 중에서 중복되는 동사를 선별한 후 다시 ‘-는 중이다’와 결합하는 목록을 선별해 내었다. 이러한 방법을 통해 최종 결과물인 물질적 과정 동사 3,214개를 선정하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to extract a list of Korean verbs that correspond to the Material process from the Process type of predicate. The academic usefulness of Process types has already been identified as the active use of course construction as a tool for text analysis and training in several disciplines which is also a part of Systematic Functional Linguistics (SFL). To implement the purpose of this paper, we defined what the material process type was, a concept that should be prioritized, and the indeterminacy of the process type were examined. Next, the five things to be careful about determining the type in case of Korean language were explained in Halliday (1994: 547-552) which was taken as a reference. We also introduced the judging process of the material process verbs, explained the criteria for the judgment, and selected a list of material process verbs. 10,953 verbs which are taken from the(Korean Basic Dictionary(National Institute of Korean Language)) and 100 million syllable corpus(SJ-RIKS extension) were selected for the primary task, and the following methods were used to select a list of material process verbs. First, all adjectives were excluded from the verb list because ‘-는 중이다’ sometimes tend to combined with adjectives. Second, the verb list of “Korean Basic Dictionary” and “SJ-RIKS extension” are taken into consideration, the overlapping verbs selected and then a list that combines them with ‘-는 중이다’ is prepared. With the help of this method a total list of the resulting material process verbs that counts to 3,214 are selected.
