Abstract

In April 1885, The British occupied the Port Hamilton islands caused an international Incident. Port Hamilton Incident Reflected the interests disputes between the powers in the Far East .By exploiting relevant countries in the contradiction, The Qing Dynasty not only restrained Russia’s aggressive ambitions to Korea, But also used the Russian influence, limited the penetration of Japan to Korea. At the same time, The Qing Dynasty utilized the contradiction between Britain and Russia, as well as Japan’s expectations and concessions to the Qing Dynasty, finally, promoted the British withdrawal from the Port Hamilton islands. Port Hamilton Incident also spurred the relevant countries to change the Far East policy, resulting in a huge change in the political situation in the Far East. Qing Dynasty strengthened the suzerainty to Korea; Through the construction of Siberia railway, Russia also strengthened the infiltration in the Far East.
