영화소설 「인간」의 문화사적 의의

Abstract

This article examines the cultural significance of Ningen, the film-novel, written by Suzuki Zentaro in 1925. The film-novel as a new genre of literature appeared in mid 1920’s. The film-novel generally means the novels that adapt the stories of movies. However, in 1920’s and 1930’, it was the novel written to be made into a movie. The earliest film novels started to appear in newspapers as serialized novels. Ningen is the first serialized film-novel with the still images from the movie in the newspaper. This article identifies the cultural backgrounds of this new phenomenon of the film-novel and which cinematic elements were transformed into the film-novel Ningen. Ningen contains the scenes which requires many extras, the frequent changes of locations and the fast temporal development to express cinematic visual language. It shows how written texts can reproduce the rhythm and tempo of the most prominent features of the film. It is a notable example that ‘illusion’ is the one of the subject matters of Ningen, which is influenced by the medium of film.
