1920～30년대 한국 근대 소설의 영화 수용과 변모 양상

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to research the development of modern Korean novels by the importation of western films during 1920-1930's. After the importation, many modern Korean young men called 'street boys' who imitated movie stars were depicted in novels. The characters in the novels talked about the films which were put on the screen at that time and once in a while the plots of some novels were based on those of the films. In the same period, the skills of cinematography and cutting had a great influence on novels, too. The character drawing method not by narrator's direct explanation but by character's action became a dominant one as a result of the influence. In addition, there was not any narrator or there were many narrators in some avant-garde novels mostly written by the members of Guinhoe such as Sang Lee and Tae-won Park. A so-called montage skill mainly invented and developed by soviet film directors such as Eisenstein, Pudovkin and others had also a lots of influence on novels. The skill made novelist have opportunities to broaden fictional spaces and to describe a character's inner world through the juxtaposition of different times and different spaces. As mentioned above, modern Korean novels finally developed into new ones by the importation of western films. Korean novelists had new idea and vision on time and space since then.
