Abstract

This paper considers the differences between the case where “takusan” is used in the adverbial form and the case where it is used in the attributive form when expressing the quantity of nouns, which is a typical usage of “takusan”. I would like to describe how to use “takusan” that can be presented to Korean learners in the field of education. As a result of the investigation, 70% of the examples of adverbial form are examples of the quantity of the “ga-case” noun. And it was found that there are many examples of co-occurrence with verbs that do not represent “motion” such as examples that co-occur with verbs that represent existence, the example of the change verb “shiteiru” and the example of the action verb “shitearu”. In the attributive form, the number of “ga-case” nouns was the most common, but the ratio was lower than that of the adverbial form. It was found that the percentage of the number of “wo-case” nouns, the number of “ni-case” nouns and the number of “to-case” nouns represented was high. In attributive form, there are no restrictions on the types of verbs that can co-occur, so it seems that there are many examples other than “ga-case”. In other words, among the examples of adverbial form, there were many examples that did not represent “motion”, such as examples that co-occur with verbs that represent existence. This is because these examples are unlikely to be interpreted as “quantity of motional continuation” and “frequency of motion”. In addition, since “takusan” in attributive form can be clearly expressed without any restrictions on the types of verbs that can co-occur, it seems that there were many examples of “wo-case”, “ni-case”, and “to-case”. Also, in sentences that co-occur with verbs that do not represent “motion,” the adverbial form is used when there is a modifier in the noun that indicates a large quantity, and the attributive form is used when there is no modifier.
