Abstract
This paper examines the history and the characteristics of the Oriental Studies having been published by the Academy of Asian Studies, Dankook University, in order to commemorate the publication of the 100th issue of the Oriental Studies. After the Institute of Oriental Studies published the 1st issue in 1971, the Oriental Studies was listed on a candidate journal for the Korea Citation Index by the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2001, and in December 2004, it was accredited in the Korea Citation Index (KCI). The Oriental Studies is a humanities journal that publishes academic papers in the field of “Asian Studies,” and has both characteristics as the Academy of Asian Studies’ bulletin and as an academic journal accredited in the Korea Citation Index. As the Academy of Asian Studies’s bulletin, the Oriental Studies published papers presented at the Academic Conferences for Asdian Studies; and published the Academy’s research results. As a Journal accredited in KCI, the Oriental Studies legislated the regulations of submissions and publications, of editing and reviewing, and of research ethics; formed the editing board and reviewed submitted papers in accordance with the regulations; and endeavor to pass the continuous assessment for KCI. The Oriental Studies kept the editing staqndard as a KCI accredited journal; publiushed in the book size larger than other journals in order to improve legibility; made effort for internationalization; and encouraged more paper-submissions through reducing researchers’ burdens by exempting fees for reviewing and publishing. Within the circumstance in which the ctisis of humanities is deepening, the Oriental Studies shall lead Asdian Stusies ny re-establishing the definition of ‘Asian Studies’; and shall maintain KCI accredition by adapting newly changing ways of publishing academic journals
