본 논문에서는 동일한 연령 내에서 측정한 임금소득 불평등 정도가 연령에 따라증가하는 현상을 생애임금소득 불평등으로 정의하고, Huggett et al.(2011)의 내생적인 인적자본 축적이 반영된 생애주기모형을 바탕으로 한국에서 생애임금소득 불평등의 원인을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 노동시장 진입 시 주어진 조건의 차이(66.9%)가 생애주기상의 외생적인 노동생산성 변화(33.1%)보다 생애임금소득불평등에 미치는 영향이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 특히 주어진 초기 조건 중 인적자본 양의 차이가 중요한 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 분석 결과는 생애임금소득의 불평등 완화를 위해서 교육 및 복지 정책을 통해 인적자본 향상을 돕는 방향으로 정책적 노력이 집중될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study quantifies the sources of lifetime wage income inequality, which is defined as the increase in the within-age-group wage income inequality by age. Sources of lifetime inequality are analyzed based on the life cycle model that reflects the endogenous human capital accumulation of Huggett et al. (2011). According to the analysis, the difference in the initial conditions (66.9%) at the time of entry into the labor market has a greater impact on the lifetime wage income inequality than the exogenous labor productivity change during the life cycle (33.1%). In particular, it is found that the difference in the amount of human capital in the initial conditions is most important. The results in this study suggest that policy efforts should be made to improve human capital through education and welfare policies to alleviate lifetime income inequality.
