이 논문은 델로스 동맹 기금이 페리클레스의 파르테논 재건 프로그램의 주된 자금 출처라는 점을 재검토하는 데 중점을 두었다. 페리클레스의 아크로폴리스 재건 사업은 고전기 그리스 세계의 가장 현저한 기념물로 남는 사업이다. 페리클레스는 아크로폴리스 재정비 사업에서 가장 먼저 파르테논 재건축에 돌입하였다. 파르테논의 재건 사업에 동맹자금 유용에 대해 논쟁의 여지가 있지만, 델로스 동맹자금에서 신전 재건 비용을 조달하였고, 아테네 제국주의 정책의 일환과 관련되었던 기존 연구에 반해 최근의 수정연구를 반영하여 동맹자금에 의지함이 없이 아테나 보고가 파르테논 신전 재건 공사비를 부담할 수 있을 정도의 자체 자금을 보유하고 있었던 점에 주안점을 두었다. 아테나 보고는 국가 보고로 기능하였으며 그곳에는 수년에 걸쳐 축적된 선물, 벌금, 압수품, 전리품, 신성한 땅의 임대료, 전쟁배상금 등 상당히 많은 재원을 보유하고 있었다. 특히 기원전 470년~460년대 해외 원정은 많은 양의 전리품을 확보하는데 도움이 되었으며, 그중 상당한 부분이 아테나 여신에게 헌정되었다. 이 모든 것은 아테나 폴리아스의 사적 재원으로서 파르테논 신전 재건의 주된 수입원으로 제공되었을 것으로 여겨진다.
Abstract
This paper focused on reexamining that the treasury of the Delian League are the primary source of fund for Acropolis building program of Pericles. Pericles' Acropolis reconstruction project is the most prominent monument in the classical Greek world. Pericles was the first to start building the Parthenon in the Acropolis reorganization project. While it is widely argued that alliance funds have been used in the Parthenon reconstruction project, it has recently been suggested that scholars have been funded by the Athena Polias treasury resources. Since the treasury of Athena functioned as the state treasury as well, it is likely that Athena’s treasury would have contained enough money to expend a large amount on the temple. For instance, It was contained that including gifts, fines, cofiscations, spoils, rents on sacred land, and war indemnities, all of which would have been accumulating over the years. In addition, the campaigns abroad in the 470s and 460s resulted in large quantities of booty, much of which must have been dedicated to Athena. All of these amounts are included in Athena Polias' private resources. There could be a debate about alliance funds being incorporated into the Parthenon reconstruction project, without relying on alliance funds, Athena’s treasury can be said to be the chief source of revenue for the Parthenon’s construction.
