This study aims to estimate the economic impact of the Robot Fair (exhibition), Robot Symposium (convention) and Robot Olympiad (international competition) on the Daejeon metropolitan economy using a regional input-output model. Multipliers of output, income, value added, indirect tax, and employment were estimated from the convention and exhibition sectors were derived from transaction tables developed by Bank of Korea (2009). Expenditures of buyers at the Robot Fair, attendees of the Robot Symposium, and participants of the Robot Olympiad were estimated through surveys. The result of this research indicates that the Robot Fair, Robot Symposium and Robot Olympiad generated 7,711 million won in terms of output, 1,614 million won in income, 3,719 million won in value-added, 409 million won in indirect taxes, and 138 full-time jobs (non-paid and paid). Totally, the economic impact of the Robot Fair was bigger than those of the Robot Symposium and Robot Olympiad. In terms of expenditure, restaurants, accommodations and tour sectors had bigger economic impact than those of the other items.
Abstract
