초록

본 논문은 벡터 자기회귀분석식(Vector Autoregressive Model: VAR)에 기반한 패널 그랜저 인과검정(Panel Granger Causality Test)을 통해 서비스업 생산성과 고용 간의 중장기적인 인과성을 검증하고 있다. 1977∼2007년 기간 중 OECD 국가 패널과 1950∼2005년 기간 중의 개도국 패널을 각각 대상으로 한 분석결과에 의하면, 적어도 중기적으로 서비스업 고용은 동 부문의 생산성에 유의미한 영향을 주지 못하는 반면, 서비스 생산성은 고용에 있어 비교적 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난다. 이러한 결과는 서비스 부문의 생산성 향상은 실질임금 증가, 서비스 시장 수요의 확대 및 이를 통한 고용 창출 능력의 제고에 기여함을 시사한다.

Abstract

This paper empirically investigates the causal link between labor productivity and employment in service sector. Our panel Granger causality test results for OECD country panel and for developing country panel provide support for a causal relationship from labor productivity to employment in service sector. On the contrary, we find little evidence on the causal effect from employment to productivity. Our results generally suggest that productivity enhancement is a key variable for service market expansion and thus employment creation in the medium-term.
