본 연구는 개인의 가치가 정치적 신뢰 수준에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였으며, 개인의 가치관이 사회적 신뢰를 매개하여 정치적 신뢰 수준에 영향을 미치는 매개효과와 개인의 가치관이 사회적 신뢰 수준과 상호작용하여 정치적 신뢰 수준에 영향을 미치는 조절효과를 각각 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 전국에 거주하는 19세 이상 성인남녀 1,243명에게서 자료를 수집하였으며, 개인의 가치관으로 능력주의와 물질주의를 고려하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 응답자의 연령, 교육수준, 사회적 계층이 높을수록 정치적 혹은 사회적 신뢰 수준이 높았으며, 물질주의 가치관에 대한 중요도는 연령대가 낮을수록 높았다. 둘째, 능력주의 가치관에 대한 중요도가 높을수록 정치적 신뢰 수준은 낮았다. 셋째, 사회적 신뢰 수준이 높을수록 정치적 신뢰 수준도 높았다. 넷째, 능력주의 가치관이 정치적 신뢰에 미치는 영향력은 사회적 신뢰 수준을 매개하는 않았다. 다섯째, 사회적 신뢰 수준이 낮을 때에는 능력주의 가치관에 대한 중요도가 정치적 신뢰를 상당히 낮추지만, 사회적 신뢰가 형성되었다고 느낄 때에는 능력주의 가치관에 대한 중요도가 정치적 신뢰를 낮추지는 않았다. 이에 따른 함의와 추후 연구가 제시되었다.
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of personal values on the levels of political trust and focused on mediating and/or moderating roles of interpersonal trust. For this, it used data collected from 1,243 adults nationwide and considered meritocracy and materialism as representative values in the society. The main findings are as follows. First, age, educational level, and subjective socio-economic status of the respondents showed positive relationships with political trust or interpersonal trust. Second, the levels of importance of meritocracy was positively related with the levels of political trust. Third, the levels of interpersonal trust showed a positive relationship with the levels of political trust. Fourth, the mediating role of interpersonal trust in the relationship between meritocracy and the levels of political trust was not significant. Fifth, even though low levels of interpersonal trust increased negative effects of meritocracy on the levels of political trust, high levels of interpersonal trust weakened those effects. Implications based on these findings were suggested.
