Abstract
This study mainly aims at verifying the asset-based (patrimonial issue) voting behavior, which is another hypothesis of economic voting, not from the traditional point of view of economic voting. In the results of binary logistic regression analysis, the effect of real estate assets was significant only in the group with the lowest asset size. In other words, it was revealed that the probability of voting for the conservative candidate of the lowest-wealth group increases as the voter with the highest asset size moves. We also used total asset of each respondent’s collected by the questionnaire on the 6th-7th Local Election Survey, which is the main data of this study. It shows that a change in voting behavior was observed according to the size of the total net assets. It demonstrates the potential for economic voting in local elections as recent studies have raised the possibility that the economic class in Korean local elections. The findings of this study, in particular, demonstrate that real estate, which is identified as a major contributor to economic inequality and polarization, has a direct or indirect impact on voting patterns, implied that economic voting is a valid strategy not only for presidential and congressional elections but also for local ones.
